Thiago Alcantara on his way to Manchester United

Manchester United agree to sign Barcelona starlet, Thiago Alcantara, on a Five-Year-Deal.

Thiago Alcantara is set to complete a £17 million move to Old Trafford, with personal terms having already been agreed.

Having starred at the recent U21 European Championships, there were expectations that the Thiago Alcantara transfer saga could drag long into the summer. Now, according to reports in the Daily Star, the Spanish prodigy is set to link up with U21 teammate David De Gea, when pre-season gets under way in a few weeks.

Manchester United have struggled for creativity through the centre of their midfield. With Thiago now set to arrive at Old Trafford, there will be a renewed vigour in an area of the pitch which has seen the recent departure of Paul Scholes and the saddening demise of Darren Fletcher.

Thiago Alcantara would certainly represent the most notable signing of David Moyes short tenure in charge and would go a long way to winning over the fans.

Thiago originally came to the attention of the United fans when scoring a thunderous volley past De Gea just two short seasons ago. More recently, the Barcelona midfielder has demonstrated that he is ready for the next step in his career. In the recent U21 European Championships final, he was the man of the match, scoring a perfect hat trick in the process.

Oldtrafford.com recently reported on the most likely Manchester United signings for the 2013/14 season. Thiago Alcantara was certainly among the frontrunners of players fans hoped to see arrive during the summer months. Now, if reports are true, it seems that Daivd Moyes has got the man he will charge with bringing a spark and dynamism back to the heart of the United midfield.
