If Liverpool is Right – This Stand on Racism is a False Hope

By Ewan Day-Collins

22nd December, 2011

Luis Suarez has been handed an eight match ban and a £40,000 fine by the FA this week for racially abusing Patrice Evra in a heated match between Liverpool and Manchester United. Yet, Liverpool FC, on their website, claim that not only will they stand by Suarez’s claim of not guilty, but they believe to have a found a potential issue in the evidence of the proceedings. Chelsea’s Progression is far more Significant than United’s Exit

By Ewan Day-Collins

8th December 2011 at Stamford Bridge

It was perhaps the most unlikely of outcomes of a Champions League week that, to many observers, looked to hold no real reason for anticipating excitement or surprise. Yet the outcome at the end of it read that Manchester United, last years’ losing finalist, failed to qualify due to an abject performance last night. Meanwhile, one night previous to United’s loss, on Tuesday, witnessed a stunning showing at home as Chelsea progressed through as group leaders to the second round of Europe’s stellar competition. Long Balls, Hard Tackling, and Direct Play…Now That’s Beautiful!

By Rasmus Lukunka

I sometimes find it rather challenging to share my thoughts on certain views without expressing my irritation. This time I’m irritated by all the talk of how Barcelona’s style of play epitomized the beautiful game. I understand that I’m probably 1 out-of 1000 who dares to challenge what has become the status quo in this view…and I’m ok with it. Read more »

Wolves Win Takes Pressure Off AVB

By Ewan Day-Collins

26th November 2011 at Stamford Bridge

It was a good win. A win much needed for Andre Villas Boas, the Chelsea manager, after a horror run, including a last minute defeat mid-week in Leverkusen that could potentially jeopardise Chelsea’s Champions League safety. A man much maligned in some quarters, and even his most loyal supporters admitting he is under considerable pressure, Villas Boas could afford nothing less than a win today, which his team achieved through a solid, consistent performance, punctuated with a few moments of brilliance. Practice begins at home

By Rasmus Lukunka

Most people have heard the phrase “Practice begins at home.” If you haven’t? Then you have now! But a home doesn’t necessarily have to be a traditional formation involving a family living under the same roof. Home can also be a general environment that you belong to or have been involved with for a period in your life. Whatever the set up, it’s at home where behaviours and skills connect to form your character. Read more »

Terry Deserves Rights – but should you Pick him on Form?

By Ewan Day-Collins

Innocent until proven guilty. I had, until this week, presumed this a basic right to all members of this country, and of the whole western world. Yet, I have been astounded and also angry at a minority of media men who have questioned this rule when regarding the issue surrounding John Terry and an alleged racial comment he made to Anton Ferdinand. The underpinning of a democratic, just and developed society is based on this simple principle. Read more »

There’s More To Replacing Paul Scholes

By Rasmus Lukunka

I don’t know about you but I also have an opinion on the infamous topic of finding a replacement for Paul Scholes. Several players have been mentioned as ideal replacements by pundits and writers. But when asked on the ideal replacement, Sir Alex, the man who created and managed Scholes compared him to the likes of Xavi and Iniesta; who are irreplaceable trailblazers of the modern game. Old England Return in Shocking Display

By Ewan Day-Collins

England started their five match ODI series against India in the worst possible fashion yesterday after a 126 run defeat at the hands of the World Champions. After failing to win a game all summer MS Dhoni’s side went into the game looking to recapture some of the same form and spirit that made them number ones earlier in the year. Looking more comfortable on home soil the Indians will now be hoping for a series win. Yet England has some head-scratching to do, as they try to resurrect a series that could not have started any worse, despite winning both warm-up matches. Read more »

Are Manchester United Starting to Falter?

By Ewan Day-Collins

Sir Alex Ferguson could not have hoped for a better start to the season considering his side were faced with some more than problematic challenges. After defeating West Brom on their season opener it was the two London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham that could have provided the banana skin that prevents a solid beginning. Yet the ease with which Ferguson’s younger looking side overcame those contests was not only impressive but inspiration for a hopefully fruitful season to come. Read more »
